Luv My India’s tribute to Sarojini Naidu’s efforts for the Tiranga

The year was 1919, the event was a women’s conference and the location was Berlin. India was yet to gain independence, but it had already begun to make its presence known on the global stage.

The conference was led by India’s nightingale, Sarojini Naidu along with some other women. She was shocked to know that India, a land with such rich cultural history and an ongoing freedom movement, did not have an official national flag.

She did not back out. Instead, with her inventive and resolute spirit, she found a creative solution. She instructed the Indian women delegates to tear strips from their sarees to create a Tiranga flag to ensure that India, too, has a symbol.

This moment symbolizes Sarojini Naidu's deep understanding of the need of a flag on the global stage as a sense of identity for Indians. She understood that a it was not a mere fabric. It is a piece of cloth that tied the nation together and represented its soul, and brought in a sense of pride and dreams.

At Luv My India, we aim to honour the same vision by making Tiranga flags that speak of national pride and togetherness. Each flag is made of pure khadi (so that when the time comes to dispose the flag, we can burry it with utmost respect and the Khadi will biodegrade) along with the dedication that Sarojini Naidu put into her fight for India’s freedom.

Luv My India is not just about selling Indian patriotic products but also about creating a community of proud and unapologetic partisans who celebrate India.

When India was still under colonial rule, she understood the power of symbols in uniting the masses and she believed that national flag was one such symbol. As an influential figure in the Indian National Congress and a member of the Constituent Assembly, she often spoke about the significance of the flag for the independence.

In her speeches and writings, Sarojini Naidu often referenced the Tiranga was not just a physical object. In one of her famous speeches, she said: "The flag is a symbol of India's unity. Under this flag, there shall be no prince or peasant, no rich or poor, no man or woman. This is the symbol of the freedom we fight for."

Sarojini Naidu was not just a celebrated poet, a freedom fighter and an active leader in the Indian independence movement. Her struggle stands out due to her tireless role in shaping the identity of India before and after the independence with Tiranga.

In the constituent assembly debates of 1947, when the Tiranga was officially adopted, Naidu echoed the importance of the flag as a unifying force for all countrymen. Her advocacy for the flag was not just a political symbol but also as an emotion that connected citizens.

Her diligent contributions remind us that a nation’s strength is not only in its achievements but also in its unity. At LMI, we want everyone to remember her words and the spirit behind it that transcends generations and continues to inspire.

Today, when you raise the Tiranga with pride, remember the sacrifices and efforts of our freedom fighters like Sarojini Naidu whose story reminds us of cherishing the heritage and the civilization Tiranga represents.

Luv My India is committed to preserve and promote the legacy of India by creating pure khadi flags that celebrate the spirit of India and Sarojini Naidu’s contribution in every fold of flag that flies high across the country.
